We are excited to announce the first-ever Summer Spotlight Junior Dairy Show, which will be held on August 26th, 2023, at 10:30 am. This spectacular event is taking place in conjunction with the Chesterville Fair, creating a unique opportunity for young dairy enthusiasts ages 9 to 21 years old to showcase their skills, exhibit their 2023 4-H Dairy Project and compete for the coveted titles of Champion Showperson and Champion Calf.

Summer Spotlight - Junior Dairy Show

August 26, 2023 @ 10:30am - Chesterville Fairgrounds (in conjunction with Chesterville Fair)

This open junior dairy show is open to youth, ages 9-21 years old, as of January 1, 2023, exhibiting their 2023 4-H dairy project. Ribbons will be presented in each class. Two highly anticipated JACKPOT PRIZES will be awarded for $1000 each to the Grand Champion Showperson and Grand Champion Calf.

This show is intended to provide youth with a fun environment to compete and learn in. We encourage families and friends to work together, demonstrate comradery, and enjoy the chance to network with those sharing the same passion to exhibit cattle.

Exhibitors & Entries:

  • Exhibitors must be between the ages of 9-21 as of January 1st, 2023 and show their 2023 registered Dairy 4-H project.
  • Registration will be handled online via Assist Expo. To register, please use the following link: https://www.assistexpo.ca/chesterville-district-ag-society
  • Entry fee of $10 per animal will be accepted and processed at time of online registration.
  • Entry Deadline: August 22, 2023
  • Showmanship Classes for Novice, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior will be offered. Conformation classes for Spring Calf, Winter Calf, Fall Calf, Summer Yearling, and Spring Yearling will be offered. All breeds will be shown together. The show committee reserves the right to combine classes or divide classes into heats as deemed necessary for both showmanship and conformation.
  • Exhibitors are required to wear a white shirt, white pants, appropriate footwear, and show harness.
  • Harness cards will be provided.

Arrival, Trucking, Bedding, Accommodation:

  • Exhibitors and livestock are asked to arrive at the Chesterville Fairgrounds after 3:00pm Friday, August 25th and before 6:30am Saturday morning, August 26th.
  • Trucks & Trailers may enter at the east entrance of the fairgrounds and park between the cattle barn and horse ring. Avoid soccer field.
  • Exhibitors must supply their own bedding.
  • Camping is not permitted at the fairgrounds. For those entering from further away, please contact the show coordinator for accommodation options in nearby communities ahead of time.

Overnight Barn Closure:

  • Barns will be closing at 10pm. A night watchperson will supervise all dairy cattle in the barn. Barns will re-open at 4am.

Animal ID, Health, Show Ethics:

  • All calves must be dual tagged (button and panel) with approved NLID tags prior to entering the fairgrounds and while on site.
  • Please proactively leave animals with health concerns or transmittable conditions at home.
  • It is important that Canadian cattle shows are seen to endorse good animal husbandry practices and promote the Canadian industry in the spirit of fair play. Unethical showing practices will not be tolerated. Criticizing or interfering with the judge, show management, or other exhibitors, or other conduct detrimental to the breed or show will result in disqualification from the event.

Schedule:
Friday, August 25th
3:00pm Livestock and exhibitors may move into the fairgrounds to set up after 3pm.

Saturday, August 26th
6:30am All livestock and exhibitors to move in before 6:30am
10:30am Showmanship Classes followed by Conformation Classes
